Winter Camping and Splitboarding

Format:  2 hours classroom plus two Full Days plus an Overnight

Join SEC for an overnight trip and tour in the Wasatch Mountains.  During this course, you will meet up to review equipment, check snow, weather, and avalanche conditions, and sort out other logistics.  In the morning, guides and clients will depart from a trailhead, traveling on splitboards, and carrying sufficient overnight gear.  Clients will learn a variety of winter camping skills to allow for a comfortable night out, and a morning tour will be a nice treat before returning to the trailhead.

Objectives:  Upon completion of the Winter Camping and Splitboarding course, clients will understand:

  • Specialized gear and equipment for successful winter camping.
  • Melting snow for water and cooking in the winter environment.
  • Building snow shelters and other snow construction.
  • Sleeping systems.
  • Hazards on winter camping expeditions.
